ADDITIONAL GOLFING TIPS AND THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
WEATHER
Ireland and Scotland have temperate climates with summer temperatures ranging from 60-70 degrees.
Showers may occur at any time of the year so rain suits, umbrellas, and an extra pair of golf shoes may be a good idea.
Remember that the seasons in South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand are opposite what we are used to in the Northern Hemisphere; our summer is their winter and vice versa. Australia and New Zealand's climate is warm most of the year with their winter temps ranging in the 60-70's. A sweater or turtleneck may be needed in New Zealand in the off-season. South Africa's climate can be similarly moderate in their winter to hot in the deserts of Sun City in the summer. Please check for specific dress codes for all courses prior to travel.
WHEN TO PLAY
Most links courses in Ireland and Scotland are open year round as are the courses of the Southern Hemisphere. Shoulder seasons are generally less crowded and the weather good as well as a great value off high season prices.
AIR FARES
While we will be happy to arrange air travel for you, most airlines offer the most competitive fares on their web sites. Please make sure your flight arrangements are synchronized with the land-based portion of your tour.
LAND TRANSPORT
OCEAN STATE GOLF TOURS LLC can provide you with a wide range of motor coaches for your group needs. All our drivers are guides and their local knowledge will add to the enjoyment of your trip.
SIGHTSEEING OR OPTIONAL TOURS
OCEAN STATE GOLF TOURS LLC will be happy to provide you with optional excursions for non-golfers as wells as sightseeing tips such as, Whisky distillery tours in Scotland or Ireland, fly fishing in New Zealand, exploring the outback in Australia, or a safari in South Africa.
RESTAURANTS
We are happy to make suggestions and assist with reservations for groups at all location.
CADDIES AND CARTS
Caddies are generally available at most courses and we are happy to arrange for you. However, since we cannot guarantee caddies, we recommend that you call the courses in advance to reconfirm availability. Payment is to be made directly to caddies. Few famous links courses allow motorized carts, however the resort courses have a limited supply, which should be reserved in advance. Motorized carts are more prevalent throughout Australia and New Zealand.
DRESS CODE AND SPIKE POLICY
Most courses do have a dress code. It is advisable to confirm this prior to playing. We will notify you of the specific courses dress codes when confirming your itinerary. More and more courses are requiring soft spikes so we suggest including a pair.
GOLF HANDICAPS
Most golf courses require visitors to have an official handicap; we recommend you carry your handicap card with you to all courses.
